Townhouses Are a NYC Rarity and These Four May Be the Ultimate Finds

“House” and “Manhattan” aren’t often found together in the same sentence, and there’s a reason for that — the Manhattan townhouse market is small, comprising only 4% of overall supply and 1.5% of overall deal volume, per data from real estate analytics firm UrbanDigs. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to find a townhouse to call home.

Townhouses offer distinct advantages to owners. They typically comprise numerous floors, outdoor space, terraces, and even rooftops, allowing owners to stretch out, relax, and live a little bit — at least more so than in many apartments or condominiums. Accordingly, townhouses give New Yorkers a feel for the country or suburbs, but all from within the lively confines of the city!

To whet your appetite, here are four townhouses currently listed in New York City as a part of the Coldwell Banker Global Luxury program:

Lincoln Square - Manhattan

250 W 71st Street Unit House New York, NY. $ 11,950,000

This meticulously gut-renovated townhouse was originally designed by a prominent architect in 1892, but has been updated top-to-bottom for modern living. The townhouse, located in the Lincoln Square neighborhood on the Upper West Side, has five bedrooms, five full bathrooms (plus three half-baths), and an elevator with access to most floors. There’s an outdoor terrace on the rooftop, and additional terraces on the fourth and fifth floors, along with a front yard and garden on the garden floor.

The home itself has been significantly upgraded, with numerous luxury finishes, and new structural improvements (such as steel joists and beams, a new foundation, waterproofing, and more) to make sure the building is safe and sound. Plus, the home has new windows, roofing, plumbing, electrical systems, and more — it’s quite literally been upgraded from root to stem!
