Straight from the pages of Dwell comes this modernist gem in the heart of Cincinnati. Clad in varying hues of wood and surrounded by trees, the slick two-story contemporary jewel box may look like it belongs in the hills of California, as opposed to the Queen City’s Mt. Adams neighborhood where it resides. That must be the point.
Designed and built by star architect Jose Garcia, the 6,000 square-foot house took two years to build and wrapped construction at the end of 2017. The interiors were designed by Julia Garcia and styled by Barb Neyer, Hillary Randall, and Michael Franz of Design Lab — who also happens a realtor with Coldwell Banker West Shell. He calls it “a labor of love” and describes it as "piece of art you can live in." When you walk inside and first glimpse the stunning views spanning from Newport and Covington, Kentucky to downtown and Over-The-Rhine, it’s hard to argue with Franz’s assessment. The masterpiece home offers plenty of space with four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and an additional half-bathroom, with a three-car garage facing the street. Vast entertaining spaces flooded with natural light via walls of windows. From Tennessee sandstone floors and Douglas fir wood to the imported windows from Luxembourg, no detail or expense was spared in its construction. An open-air courtyard shrouded in glass is one of the home’s most dramatic aesthetic achievements, and serves as Garcia’s enduring ode to minimalism, filling much of the house with a sense of openness and natural light. A massive rooftop deck covering a third of the house's total footprint offers a striking vantage point from which to take in the epic of city light panoramas.
