The Ultimate Entertainer's 'Haven': A Redesigned Buckhead Home by RAD Interiors
Ryan Austin Hagood, the design mind behind Atlanta-based RAD Interiors, brought his texturally layered aesthetic to this reimagined 1980-built Atlanta residence. The result is nothing short brilliant. Light-filled spaces, punctuated by colorful textiles, organic elements, earthy palettes, and patinated metals - RAD calling cards – define the nearly 10,000-square-foot interiors, which were boldly expanded across two stories and renovated under the the direction of custom home builder Shaba Derazi.
Step inside the house that listing agent Debra Johnston calls simply "Castlegate" and see more of what Hagood and Derazi brought to life in the heart of one of Atlanta's poshest neighborhoods.
Johnston says virtually no detail was left untouched on the property. The designer and builder team upgraded everything from the systems to the pool and even the front entry hardscape, transforming it into a welcoming, private and secure double gated drive brightened by the warm glow of gas lanterns. The entry experience, nestled among meticulously manicured surroundings on a little over an acre, sets the stage for a sophisticated living and entertaining experience that pays homage to the Atlanta lifestyle.
Main level public spaces were optimized for seamless flow that facilitates entertaining in a variety of settings. Many of these rooms are accessible through inviting doorways that lead to the outdoors. The duo took alfresco living to new heights on the new outdoor patio with motorized screens, artisanal stonework, Japanese 'Shou Sugi Ban' wood finished angled ceilings, and an outdoor fireplace with a hidden TV. An outdoor Mosquito Nix system adds another layer of comfort while entertaining during warmer months. A new lower level beckons with modern iron doors, unveiling an outdoor gas firepit adjacent to the custom pebble saltwater pool, perfect for gatherings of family and friends. The media room provides a certain "wow" factor with a 4k projector and bar. The gym offers the ultimate private workout space.
Over six bedrooms, eight full bathrooms and two half baths were designed to offer tremendous flexibility to the next owner. A main level primary bedroom suite is the picture of sanctuary with Architectural Digest-worthy white marble bath, steam shower, heated stone floors, separate water closets and dressing rooms. "Every detail of this magnificent home exudes sophistication, with bespoke craftsmanship and impeccable custom design," says Johnston.
A central part of the pair's vision was the integration of new home systems, including integrated technology such as Control4 Technology that orchestrates automated lighting, climate control, security systems, and entertainment, including Samsung Art TVs and a Sony 4K Projector. Among the many other standout features: a whole house Kohler generator, three HVAC systems, three hot water sources for the property, parking for multiple vehicles (including a 3-car garage), a large motor court, additional guest parking and circular pea gravel drive – another thoughtful addition for the entertainer at heart. "There's also the convenience of gas systems piped directly to the outdoor grill, firepit, and pool heater, alongside spray foam insulation throughout the attic," adds Johnston.
Further elevating the property is its prime location on "one of the best streets in Kingswood," off of West Paces Ferry, in the heart of Atlanta's Buckhead enclave.
As our tour makes clear, Hagood and Derazi have succeeded in creating a visionary masterpiece for Kingswood that celebrates the best of Atlanta refined living.
