About Me

Area of Expertise

Seasoned negotiator ready to be your advocate on the purchase or sale of single family housing: condominiums, townhouses, co-ops and detached residences.

Personal Background

Alan builds a partnership relationship with each of his clients to explore and analyze the up to the minute status of the evolving Chicagoland real estate market.
A native of the Windy City, Alan possesses a depth of knowledge of Chicago neighborhoods and nearby adjoining suburban towns and villages. He enjoys introducing buyers to the unique communities that comprise Chicagoland.
Alan was raised on the far south side and graduated Morgan Park High School. He has a B.S. in Economics from the Stuart School of Finance at Illinois Institute of Technology. He received a Juris Doctorate from Chicago Kent College of Law in 1976.
For 25 years Alan practiced real estate law in Chicago and on the North Shore. During that time he closed over 2,000 real estate transactions. His client list included developers, condominium associations and scores of individual property owners.
For the past 10 years Alan has been selling real estate full time as an associate broker at Coldwell Banker. He went from city "Rookie of the Year" in 1991 to being named in the top 2% of the company nationally for sales in 2009. Although he considers himself a generalist, Alan has developed two niche specialties. He represents corporate transferees moving into Chicagoland. He also specializes in the purchase and sale of church buildings.
Alan is a writer for a 5,000 circulation weekly in Carroll County, Indiana. His "Midwest Memo" column has run for over 15 years. A weekend home on his in-laws' farm there has afforded him his Hoosier connection. He is also the author of Making Money in Real Estate published by CommuterPress and a contributor to Chicken Soup for the Kids Soul.
Alan and his wife, Deborah, reside on Randolph Street across from Millennium Park in downtown Chicago.

Relocation Experience

In 2004 Alan received his initial training and certification for representing buyers and sellers in corporate relocations. In the last 7 years he has assisted dozens of corporate transferees and families find their new Chicago area home. Those searches have extended past the city limits west to the Village of Oak Park and north to the City of Evanston. Properties purchased in these home quests have ranged from a lakefront studio condominium to a 6 bedroom single family home in Lincoln Park.

In 2010 Alan represented three families transferring from Ohio, Texas and Michigan. All three chose new construction in Near North Chicago neighborhoods. In one case, the house search involved extensive school research needed to match three children entering grammar, middle and high school.

Years of working with relocating families has given Alan a unique vantage point from which he assists his relocation clients.
