La Dolce Vita: Upfront with Cassiano Sabatini

Greatest extravagance: My yearly solo cruise with my sailing boat. Greatest necessity: To live, not just survive.  Greatest love: My family. My idea of perfect happiness is: Wake up in the morning in a sailboat, lulled by the sea, with the aroma of coffee. I feel most inspired when: When I believe in what I’m doing…even if it’s raining. Most prized vintage in my collection: A bottle of Masseto from the Ornellaia Estate. Most memorable meal I’ve ever had: The Pelican Restaurant, Porto Ercole, dinner for my first 45 years. I enjoyed mainly almond risotto with red shrimp juice and chicory coffee, roasted blue lobster with Marsala-Crespino sauce (divine!) and smoked potatoes with hake, and oysters in shiso sauce, all accompanied by Gaja Gaia and Rey 2009. Best place in Italy to own a wine country home: Tuscany, of course! We have five labels in the list of the 100 most sought-after wines in the world, six consortia DOCG, 36 DOC consortia, an export increase of 46% over the past five years, and hundreds of wineries that have won awards. All of this is in an area that does not need any introduction....  What to look for when purchasing a wine estate in Italy: Surely, among other things, the peculiarity of the land, the climate and the soil composition.
