A 2,000-acre Napa Valley ranch has cropped up for sale in St. Helena for $100 million, as first reported by The Wall Street Journal. One of the largest properties left in the valley spanning over 17 parcels, Glendale Ranch "is a world unto itself," said listing agent Erin Lail of Coldwell Banker Brokers of the Valley. "It's the crown jewel of Napa Valley with a legacy that can be traced back to the earliest days of California winemaking."

The sprawling property features four family homes, 40 acres of planted vineyards, historic structures, mountain views, abundant water sources, and extensive infrastructure, including an agricultural barn, workshop, winery barn, and a comprehensive road system. Lail emphasizes the ranch's diverse offerings, from lush vineyards and serene lakes to historic homes and abundant gardens, providing endless possibilities for recreation and relaxation for the next owners.

Glendale Ranch has been home to some of the region's most influential families. Purchased in 1938 by oil magnate David Fasken, the property has remained in the family for nearly 87 years. The property is now being sold by Andrew Green and Lindsey Wiseman. "Because Glendale Ranch has continued largely untouched for most of a century, today it represents a canvas on which the next steward can paint their dreams,” they noted in a joint statement.

Upon Fasken’s death, the ranch was left to Wiseman’s great-aunt, Barbara Towne Fasken. Previous owners include Howard Overacker Jr., who introduced innovative agricultural practices on the land in the early 1900s, Edwin M. Hall Jr. and Alfred Tubbs, known for establishing Chateau Montelena in the late 19th century, General George V. Rutherford and George Yount of Yountville.

Awaiting the next owner is the epitome of sanctuary. Tucked away in a private valley and set only seven minutes from Main Street St. Helena, the ranch offers ample space for large-scale recreation, ranching, and relaxation amidst untouched natural beauty. A centerpiece of the ranch is a seven-acre lake, which can be used for swimming, boating, and fishing. Built in 1953, the lake supports recreational activities and vineyard irrigation.

Two ponds and numerous creeks and waterways weave throughout the property, lending to the suspended state of tranquility that is felt from the moment a visitor enters the property. The Wisemans regard this preserved natural beauty as a rare and deeply prized asset. "In today's world where we find ourselves constantly connected, Glendale Ranch provides something increasingly rare – a place to let go, disconnect, and reconnect with what matters most – with family, friends, and most importantly with ourselves," they said. "Here, if you choose, you can explore for days, encountering only wildlife and the whisper of wind through ancient oaks."

The 40-acre active vineyard produces an average yield of 2.3 tons per acre and includes over 20 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, four acres of Malbec, and additional plots of Petit Verdot, Petit Syrah, and Merlot. This could allow the next owner of Glendale Ranch to "develop a significant presence in one of the most prestigious valleys in the wine world," added the Wisemans.

Four historic residential structures are peppered throughout the property, including a main house affectionately called the "White House." This two-story colonial-style home was built in the 1880s, featuring six bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and one half-bath in 3,328 square feet. Outside, there is a detached two-car garage and workshop.

Built in the early 1900s, Grove House stands at 1,830 square feet with three bedrooms and two full baths, along with a large workshop and a water well with a 10,000-gallon concrete storage tank. Another structure with equal charm, Vineyard View House, is a 1940s kit home that arrived by railroad and offers two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and 1,520 square feet with expansive vineyard views. The fourth residence, Creekside House, was constructed in the early 1900s and situated on a prolific ranch garden featuring three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, an attached two-car garage, and 1,709 square feet of living space. Irrigation needs have been well-considered, with three separate wells supplying various parts of the property.

As current stewards of Glendale Ranch, the Wisemans have come to view it as a beacon of sustainability and inspiration in the world.

"What sets Glendale Ranch apart is its perfect duality," they said. "Whether hosting world leaders for an intimate gathering or retreating into complete solitude, you control your experience. This rare combination in Napa Valley allows you to create your own private sanctuary while enjoying the region's finest experiences just minutes away."
