The year before this little historic building went up, Sears, Roebuck & Co. had estimated sales of $50 million from their catalog. Those 500 plus pages had everything you could possibly have needed in 1908. Small general stores across the nation were in fear of this new form of commercefear that a simpler way of life would be forever changed for the worse. A mail order catalog could suddenly get you anything you desired by simply filling out an order form and waiting for the train in from Chicago. That same year, Sears started a prefab home division. This little butcher shop and corner store not only went up and hung on, it thrived in business for years to come. With the revival of Trolly Square and the surrounding neighborhoods, I see this stoic little storefront having a fantastic future ahead of it.
